Your room is like a total mess, your friends and family nag you about what to do with that shack of a house you call “home”. As messy as it is, you have lived quite comfortably for the past few years. Though suddenly you see how lovely your friend’s room is. Simple, clutterless, stylish, pretty, comfortable, home. No worries, its really simple to go from what I would call, a extremely personalized room to a simply personalized hotel room!
RULE Number One: Never keep a ginormous collectionf of trinkets and souvenirs you can get from around the world!
a) It’s useless
b) People come in the room and would see a really tacky souvenir and think, WTF? (Unless it fits in the room, it’s better in the trash for stored secretly AWAY!!!
c) It’s important that if you do want a clean, sleek, simple room, you will have to give up on your huge collection. I mean you don’t have to throw it ALL away, but just keep it away from plain sight.
RULE Number Two: Start With getting rid of things that you haven’t used for the past 6 years. I mean, if you have used it for the past 6 years, I doubt you’ll use it for the rest of your life time. Come on, seriously be realistic when doing this. Oh, and for those who are thinking “oh i might use this in the future and I don’t want to waste money buying it in the future blah, bleh, blah”. Yes that is true, though every time you think that, just think about the rent or the money you pay to keep your property so that you could keep this piece of $h!t =)
RULE Number Two: Keep only the vital daily things you NEED out in plain sight. There’s no need to see a box full of Christmas decorations out on the 4th of July -_-” That’s a great place for the garage.
RULE Number Three: Buy colourful stylish boxes or containers to keep things organized!!! They look simple, yet convenient to look for when you need to find something specific! Trust me, you have not idea how useful these can get! I got mines from the dollar store and they looked pretty good. Of course if you want bigger boxes, you’ll need to spend bigger bucks.
RULE Number Four: Have SOME decorations. Go to places like Pottery Barn if you want something really fancy, but if you are just looking for something pleasing to the eye and does not matter where you get it from, try local stores like Wal-Mart =) REMEMBER not to overload your house with them!
RULE Number Five: Keep the word “Balance” in mind. When arranging ANYTHING at all, everything should look balanced and pleasing to the eyes.
RULE Number Six: When having picture frames in your room, do NOT hang it so high that its inches from the ceiling -_-” trust me, people will not be able to enjoy it from there when they are straining their necks. It’s also very strange to have it so high… You may be thinking, “who the hell would do that,” but ohhhh trust me, there ARE. Just place it at eye level.
RULE Number Seven: Rugs, they are quite nice to tie the room together as well as give a cozy feel to the room. However, they should never be in the middle of the room with no furnitures touching the rug. Complicated, but it’s something to keep in mind as rugs like that in the middle of the room tend to give an illusion that it “floats” in the middle of the room. Try having some legs of a coffee table on it to keep it grounded!
That’s all I can think of for now, but I’ll update this when I think of more =)
